Excerpt

Orville stayed close to the earth at first, turning and climbing slowly as he picked up speed. The twenty-five horsepower engine made loud staccato popping noises. The propellers flashed in the sun. Orville watched the wind rip at the strong muslin on the wings. A few years earlier in Dayton he had drawn the first pattern himself and cut the cloth. Wilber had sewn the first wing coverings…the Wright brothers were used to starting their ideas from scratch.
